Job Role Description


We are currently recruiting for a highly competitive opportunity to join Radio XL, a leading radio station based in the West Midlands, as a Junior Administrator.

The successful candidate will begin to get involved in other areas of the radio station and can move into presenting, editing, broadcasting and media upon successful completion of the apprenticeship which will lead to gaining a great understanding of how a radio station functions.

The job is very much fun and varied; it will involve interaction with and direct reporting to the Station Manager. This is a vital role within the organisation to ensure the smooth operation of the firm and over 30 presenters; it is both varied and interesting requiring a person with good organisation skills.

As an administrator, you will also be involved in multiple aspects of the business; whilst gaining valuable skills, knowledge and experience in a lively working environment. You'll be supported by the team at Radio XL, alongside a dedicated team of assessors and trainers at GFT.


About The Employer


Radio XL is a 24-hour radio station aimed primarily, but not exclusively, at the Asian community in the main West Midlands conurbation. With its wide reach the station will be available to a potential Asian audience in excess of 400,000 people from the 15+ age group. Located on the main A34 route out of Birmingham City Centre, Radio XL is easily accessible to its target audience. Radio XL is fully committed to building a strong relationship with the community. They are involved in organising regular concert promotions, gigs, road shows, outdoor park events, contests, live links with the business community, fund raising events etc.

Many companies for far too long have overlooked this vibrant community. Radio XL sets out to meet the many needs of the community with a mixture of music, information, debate and entertainment, all served up with a sense of humour. From Bhangra music to Bollywood , from beauty tips to business affairs – its all there! Our key presenters are experienced broadcasters and have become household names. Their programmes are designed to reach all sections of the community by using Hindi and English languages. Other specialist programmes will be broadcast in minority ethnic languages of Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali and others.

Radio XL has its own in-house commercial production facility for producing commercials and jingles. A specialist team of multi-lingual professionals can present your message in the right way to reach your target audience. Our Sales Team are only too willing to assist businesses with their advertising
requirements and design a package that will maximise sales or awareness.

Our News Team broadcasts local and national news on a daily basis, both in English and Hindi.

Overall, Radio XL is an energetic radio station and is your access to the young, free-spending Asian teenager, the upwardly mobile, young Asian couples with young families, the well-established Asian business community, and the hard working Asians in factories and businesses throughout the region. The Asian community are avid listeners to the radio and if you go into any Asian household at any time of the day you are most likely to find a radio switched on. Whilst they are a diverse community of many religions and cultural backgrounds, they all share a love of music and are proud of their culture.


Role Duties


The role involves general administration within the office which includes:

- Checking emails
- Updating attendance sheets
- Managing incoming phone calls
- Logging sales contracts
- Running daily advert logs
- Ensuring the offices are kept clean.

Further tasks include:
- Updating features on the website and commercial production work from time to time.


Training You'll Receive


Our Business Administrator Level 3 Standard includes modules such as:

- Document Production
- Communication Skills
- Project Management
- Online Safety
- Use of Microsoft
- Sustainability
- Interpersonal Skills
- Telephone Skills
- Managing Performance

You will have access to a laptop and the internet to complete your training whilst in the workplace.

Training will be delivered on-the-job, in the workplace, at our Training Centre and via Zoom sessions.

This employer will also provide training on all in house procedures, systems and other relevant training to the role.


Desired Skills & Qualities


- Must be able to use Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Powerpoint.
- Must have good command of the English Language and preferable but not essential, partially fluent in one of the Asian languages.
- A flexible, positive attitude with lots of common sense!
- Presentable, eager to learn and committed.
- To be able to work under pressure and use initiative for problem solving.


Entry Requirements


General Requirements:
- Age 16+
- Not currently in Education, Employment or Training
- Eligible to work in England
- Looking for a career in administration, or more specifically in the radio, broadcasting and media sector.

Qualifications:
- Age 16-18: maths and English at GCSE or Functional Skills or equivalents (grades will be discussed at interview)
- Age 19+: must have maths and English GCSE grade 9 to 5 (A* to C) or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.

Experience:
- Previous experience in an administration role would be advantageous but is not essential.


 

Working Hours


This role will be performed over 32.5 hours per week.

There are some fantastic development opportunities upon the successful completion of the apprenticeship, we would like to encourage moving the successful candidate towards radio presenting, broadcasting/media etc.

Following completion of this Level 3 apprenticeship, you may also want to continue your apprenticeship progression by advancing on to a higher level. You may also have the opportunity to apply for higher education courses at University.

This role will also qualify you to progress onto permanent employment within an administration role and more specifically in the media sector..
