Programme Overview
Our Access To Sport Programme has been designed to provide students with a high quality of support, enabling them to achieve positive habits of time keeping, travelling to and from a place of work and developing their personal soft skills such as confidence and communication to help them back onto a successful career path.
Incorporating both sports coaching and employment skills, the first 10 weeks of this programme will help students to identify any barriers to employment that they are facing, whilst introducing Functional Skills Support and the basics of sports coaching. Through the first 10 week induction, students will have the opportunity to work on the roles that a sports coach plays with the development of young people through the ABC’s. A DBS Check will also be completed on week 6 or 7 of this induction. These sessions will be delivered at Goals Soccer Centre (Perry Barr), based in Birmingham.
Our dedicated sports tutors will support students throughout the programme, ensuring they develop the key skills and behaviours that employers are looking for by learning through sport coaching activities. This is also a great opportunity to progress with maths and English Functional Skills qualifications.
This programme also incorporates a 6 week work placement, which is ran similar to how real life job training and a job interview would, to support each student with gaining the relevant skills and experience that will be expected when entering the real world of work. We work with some of the biggest sports coaching companies within Birmingham, who have supported a range of our students with gaining further experience following completion of their programme. Placements include working alongside the teams at Goals Soccer Centre, as well as various Sports Coaching companies that work within Primary Schools and Holiday Camps.
Towards the end of the Access To Sport Programme, each student will progress onto working towards the 1st4sports Multi Skills Level 2 qualification, which will provide them with the relevant skills and experience ahead of approaching real employers in the sports industry.
Our student engagement and careers team, will guide students through this programme with the final goal of securing an apprenticeship, employment or college offer. Since first delivering this Access To Sport Programme, we have had a 91% success rate of supporting young people into sports employment.
