Reflecting On Your 2021

Dec. 20, 2021, 1:47 p.m.
As we approach the end of 2021, it is really important that we reflect back on what we have achieved so far this year. Although this year has presented us with some challenges, we should all still reflect on the positive progress that we have made this year. Below we have listed some steps that are going to help you enter 2022 with a clear mindset....

Firstly, we believe that setting short term and long term goals enables the mind to remain focused whilst also allowing yourself to determine your own potential. In order to make goal setting exercises as effective as possible, we recommend reflecting on your progress on a regular basis. The end of the year is often a key moment for reflection upon your personal goals, and it also is a fantastic time to think about what you want to achieve in the new year. This is why the saying 'New year, new me' is so often used!

Review the goals that you set at the start of 2021:

It is really important that you think about whether the long term career goals that you set at the start of 2021 are still relevant to you. Remember, change isn't a bad thing and if you have had a change of heart this is normal.

If you have decided to change the direction that you want to go in, now is a good time to set a new long term goal. A great way to confirm that your long term goal is something that you want to stick to is by thinking about WHY you actually want to achieve that goal. How will it make you feel? What difference will this make to your life? What other opportunities will it bring?

1. Consider what you have achieved so far

A great way to review your progression is to look back at your short term goals and see which ones have been achieved so far. In a previous blog post, we recommended that you wrote a step by step list of milestones that you would need to complete to achieve your final career goal. Think of this as a check list and tick off which ones you have already completed.

This is a really rewarding stage as you get to see all of your hard work pay off!

Try not to get too disheartened if you haven't ticked off everything on your list. Remember all good things take time, and also keep in mind that 2020 has been a tough year for everyone!

2. Set new goals

After reflecting on what you have achieved this year, it is now time to consider making new goals for the upcoming year of 2022. We recommend setting new long-term goals and consider what it is going to take to achieve this based on your current situation. From this, you can a list of milestones that you want to accomplish before the end of the year.
